Een dubbele Best Of Simone’s Songlines, met Marc Broussard en Andy Platts (Young Gun Silver Fox), die allebei komend weekend optreden op het North Sea Jazz.

Als aanloop naar het North Sea Jazz Festival deze week een Best of Simone’s Songlines met hoogtepunten uit interviews met Marc Broussard en Andy Platts (Mamas Gun/Young Gun Silver Fox).

Marc Broussard

De Amerikaanse singer/songwriter en filantroop Marc Broussard werd begin Jaren 80 geboren in een muzikaal gezin in Louisiana. Hij vond zijn weg in de wereld van de Bayou Soul en heeft inmiddels 9 studio albums en 3 EP’s op zijn naam staan. Simone sprak hem in Nashville in 2015 over zijn muzikale wortels, zijn werk met de wederopbouw van New Orleans na Orkaan Katrina, reizen in de tijd, rivierkreeften én... Louisiana Soul Food!

“I feel very at home in Holland. One of the best meals I’ve ever had was right in the middle of Amsterdam. And there’s a whole host of things that Louisianians could show the Dutch people about culinary excellency. I would introduce the Cajun Benedict for breakfast, for lunch a fried shrimp or catfish Po’ Boy sandwich and a crawfish etouffé for dinner."

Andy Platts

De Engelse singer/songwriter Andy Platts werd geboren in Hong Kong in een gezin met een Engelse vader en Filippijnse moeder. Naast zijn bands Mamas Gun en Young Gun Silver Fox werkt hij ook geregeld samen met songwriters uit Japan en Korea. Simone sprak Andy vorig jaar in Tivoli/Vredenburg in Utrecht, en vroeg hem of hij zich nog sterk verbonden voelt met Azie.

“Absolutely, with the continent as a whole. I lived in Hong Kong until I was 10 years old and didn’t return until I was 29. It was very emotional for me. I didn’t understand how a place could feel so familiar and yet so unknown at the same time. It feels like you belong there, but you are absolutely not a part of it."

Verder kwamen The Beatles aan de orde, zijn hoop voor de toekomst én er werden onverwacht nog wat traantjes weggepinkt bij zijn verhaal over een prachtig liedje van Scott Walker. Pak de zakdoekjes maar vast.
